How to Know You Need New Tires

Oct 18, 2022

Car ownership is one of the many joys of life. With your car, you can literally go anywhere you want. However, to get the best out of it, and to remain safe and protect other drivers on the road, you should take good care of your car, including changing your tires when they’re worn out. Here are a few signs it's time to visit the tire shop and change your tires.

Cracked Rubber

No matter how good your tires are, they’ll wear down over time. Even if you don't use your car a lot, chemicals, heat, sunlight, and weather conditions can reduce the flexibility of the rubber, which causes the tires to crack. As you might imagine, moving around with cracked tires isn’t safe and can cause your tires to burst anytime, which presents a danger to you and other drivers on the road. According to Policy Advice, in 2019, about 17 million vehicles were sold in the United States alone. With so many people on the road, you should ensure your tires are safe to drive on all year long by regularly visiting your local tire shop for an inspection.

Uneven Tire Tread

There are several factors that contribute to uneven tire wear. Regardless of what caused it, uneven wear shortens the life of your tires. In most instances, it’s due to a lack of rotation, poor alignment, low tire pressure, or worn suspension or steering components. To reduce uneven wear, it's wise to rotate your tires every 5,000 miles, according to Consumer Reports. Take your vehicle to a tire shop to make sure it's getting the right care it needs.

Tire Pressure Issues

All tires slowly deflate over time. In most instances, it's at a rate of one pound per square inch per month, according to Geico. You should routinely check your tire pressure because driving with tires that aren’t properly inflated isn’t safe. If your tires seem to be losing air at a fast rate or if they start deflating without warning, you must consider changing them as soon as possible. You may start noticing the tire pressure monitoring system light on the dash, and this light is a sign your tires have developed leaks.

It's important to change your tires as soon as you notice any of the signs above. Are you worried that your tires may not be safe to drive on anymore? Get in touch with Pro Custom & Tire today.
